Only a limited number of species grew robustly in the harsh wastewater (WW) growth media. The majority of algae collapsed after a few days of growth. Fortunately, several algal species (outlined by blue and red dash-lines) were found to be suitable for cultivation in WW. The addition of AD effluent was beneficial for all species (bioreactors 3 and 4) compared to WW alone (bioreactors 1 and 2) . Moreover, the growth rate in WW was significantly higher than typical Bold’s Basal Medium (bioreactors 5 and 6).
